Bamboo Grove Conservation in the Kozukue Castle Site's Nature Conservation Woods

On October 7, 2023, 27 of our employees and family volunteered to help preserve the environment by participating in bamboo thinning sponsored by the Japanese Bamboo Fan Club, the specified non-profit corporation, at the Kozukue Castle Site in Yokohama City. This was the first time in eight years since 2015 that bamboo thinning was conducted there, and the first time in four years since 2019 before the corona infection, making this the sixth time in total that bamboo thinning has been conducted. This year, CEO Mr. Tanimura himself participated in the event, which greatly boosted the morale of all participants.

Bamboo groves should be thinned regularly to prevent them from spreading into neighboring woods and killing plants and trees, having an adverse impact on the forest environment.
Regular maintenance is necessary to preserve the beauty of Japan's bamboo forests.

Under the guidance of skilled plantation workers, all the volunteers worked hard using saws to cut roots, shred at 3-meter intervals, cut branches, and perform other maintenance work while taking care of their own safety.

The cut bamboo will be transformed into more than 5,000 bamboo lanterns at the 20th Bamboo Lantern Festival to be held on November 4 in the Citizen's Forest.

Promoting Modal Shift and Environmentally Friendly Driving

Hankyu Hanshin Express and Hankyu Hanshin Logipartners are striving to reduce CO² emissions by introducing modal shift and promoting environmentally friendly driving.

An example of modal shift is a change from an all-truck transportation method to one that involves using consolidated rail freight, to transport customs cleared goods from a port to a mid-point where the goods are transferred to trucks for delivery to factories in inland areas. Changes like this contribute to reductions in CO² emissions.

As part of our efforts to promote environmentally friendly driving, we commenced installation of devices to prevent engine idling in 2010. All trucks have now been fitted with these devices. We are aiming to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO² emissions by the amount of CO² that 4,500 cedar trees absorb in a year.
